The fire at the former Central Warehouse storage building on Montgomery Street has been put out, officials said today.
As of 11 a.m., no smoke could be seen coming from the building and all visible flames had been extinguished, said Albany Police spokesman Jimmy Miller.
Firefighters are now entering the building to conduct the structure’s first inspection since the fire broke out three days ago, said Miller. Firefighters did not enter the 83-year-old building after the fire erupted on Friday because the conditions were deemed unsafe.
Since that time, firefighters have attacked the blaze from outside. Sunday night, officials attempted to tame the flames by pouring thousands gallons of water onto the building’s 10th floor.
The 11-story cold storage facility had been vacant for nearly 20 years.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
