MINNEAPOLIS — Clarence Jackson scored a career-high 29 points, but it wasn’t enough as turnover-prone Siena lost to Minnesota, 76-69, at Williams Arena tonight.

Siena led by as many as 10 midway through the half and led by six early in the second half, but Minnesota scored 11 straight to take a 47-42 lead, and was able to hold Siena at bay the rest of the way.

Freshman points guard Rakeem Brookins made it interesting, scoring 12 points in the closing minutes to bring Siena within 69-65.

The Gophers made five of six free throws in the final 46 seconds to hang on.

The Golden Gophers took its first lead since the early moments of the game when Trevor Mbawke finished a three-point play with 1:10 left to make it 33-32.

Jackson came back to finish a tough drive into the paint against three defenders.

The Gophers had the final possession, but Mbakwe traveled.
