A man broke his way into a Campbell Avenue apartment Wednesday night, threatened the residents and choked one with a lamp cord to the point of unconsciousness, authorities said.
The man, identified as 20-year-old Christopher J. Stover, was targeting his stepfather, threatening to kill them, according to papers filed in court.
Stover, no address given, was arrested a short time after the incident at Guilderland and Helderberg avenues.
The incident began shortly after 9 p.m. when Stover broke into the apartment, kicking in the front screen door and pushing his way into the apartment, according to papers.
In the process of fighting with his 55-year-old stepfather, Stover is accused of ripping the cord from the lamp and wrapping it around his hands. Stover then used the cord to choke the victim to unconsciousness.
Stover is also accused of punching and kicking the victim and hitting him with the lamp about eight times.
The victim was taken to Ellis Hospital with cuts, bruising, swelling and pain. Several stitches were required to close a cut on his head, according to papers.
In all, Stover faces one count of first-degree burglary, first-degree strangulation, second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, and first-degree criminal contempt, all felonies.
He also faces one count of second-degree criminal contempt and two counts of second-degree menacing, misdemeanors.
Stover was arraigned and ordered held on $15,000 bail. He remained at the Schenectady County Jail Thursday evening.
