The bookkeeper at a St. Johnsville car dealership is charged with embezzling more than $150,000 over the last 2 1/2 years.

Joanne W. Strobel, 48, of North Division Street, St. Johnsville was arrested today by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department on charges of second-degree grand larceny and second-degree forgery.

She was arraigned in St. Johnsville Town Court and released on $5,000 bail.

Sheriff’s investigators announced the arrest in a news release.

Investigators said Strobel embezzled the money from her employer, Sitterly’s Quality Auto of St. Johnsville.

The arrest concluded a two-month investigation.

The thefts began in January 2009, investigators said. Strobel wrote checks from the business to pay personal expenses including utility bills, a cell phone bill and auto insurance, officials said. Investigators said she also wrote personal checks to herself from the business account and cashed them.
