A 47-year-old Amsterdam man charged with selling heroin on two occasions in January of last year was sentenced today in Montgomery County Court to eight years in prison.

Carlos Colon of Market Street was sentenced by Judge Felix J. Catena on the basis of Colon’s March 7 guilty pleas to two counts each of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession.

The four charges were part of a 2010 indictment. Colon was sentenced to four eight-year terms, to run concurrently.

Judge Catena lectured Colon, a second-felony offender who admitted he failed to complete previous drug rehab programs, about making a commitment to the drug therapy program offered in prison.

Judge Catena also sentenced Colon to three years of post-release supervision.
