Firefly Fisher from the Harlem Globetrotters came to St. Thomas the Apostle School in Delmar on Feb. 14. He made the day fun and exciting for everyone. He did ball games, passes and other neat tricks with the 200 kids.
Firefly Fisher’s first name is Tae. He used to play for Siena College, graduating in 2008. He was drafted to the Globetrotters and has played for the Globetrotters for two years.
He came to our school to teach us about the CHEER Program. C is for cooperation. Cooperation means to be kind and use teamwork. H is for healthy minds and bodies. That means to read and stay active. The first E is for effort. Effort means to put your best into everything and keep trying. The second E is for enthusiasm. Enthusiasm means to keep active, have lots of energy, and most importantly, have fun. R means responsibility. That means do things on time. Each of those is an important concept you need to know.
After talking about the CHEER Program, Firefly played another game called “The Magic Circle.” If you ever go to a Globetrotters game, they would do The Magic Circle. It is a series of different passes to different people. Five students at St. Thomas School attempted The Magic Circle: an eighth-grader, a seventh-grader, a sixth-grader, a fifth-grader and a first-grader. There were five passes. Each student attempted one of the five passes. Those students received an autographed picture from Firefly Fisher.
Firefly Fisher inspired me to be kind and respectful to my friends. He lit it for my friends and me! Everyone had a fun and exciting time.
