A Cambridge farm worker who hit a state trooper with a pickup truck after a domestic disturbance has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Local media report that 31-year-old Abel Jimenez of Cambridge was sentenced Thursday in Washington County Court. He had pleaded guilty in April to second-degree assault. Jimenez is in the U.S. illegally and will be deported to Mexico after serving the prison time.
Police were investigating reports of a domestic dispute at Jimenez’ home on Aug. 20 when Trooper J.P. Smith stopped his pickup in neighboring Easton. Authorities say Jimenez drove the truck at Smith and later abandoned the pickup. He was arrested after a nine-day manhunt.
Smith suffered head and neck injuries but is back on the job.
