Three people are facing welfare fraud and other criminal charges following a probe by the Montgomery County Department of Social Services Welfare Fraud Investigative Unit.
Kenneth N. Clark, 51, of Pyramid Pines Estates, Wilton, was charged with one misdemeanor count of fifth-degree welfare fraud and one felony count of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing.
Clark received $573 in benefits to which he was not entitled and filed an application stating he resided in Amsterdam when in fact he lives in Saratoga County, according to Investigator Michael Villa.
Lorelei Cable, 49, of Lynk Street, Sprakers, was accused of receiving $1,000 in benefits to which she was not entitled and failing to report accurate household compensation. She was charged with one count of fifth-degree welfare fraud and one count of second-degree offering a false instrument for filing, both misdemeanors.
Meagan Furber, 21, of West Main Street, Fort Plain, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of offering a false instrument for filing and one misdemeanor count of welfare fraud. She allegedly received less than $500 in benefits to which she was not entitled. Also, she also was wanted in St. Petersburg, Fla., for violating probation, police said.
“If you are fleeing justice from another state, you are not allowed welfare benefits in the state of New York,” Villa said.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Department and the Amsterdam Police Department collaborated with the Department of Social Services to make the arrests.
The three suspects are scheduled to be arraigned May 25 in Mohawk Town Court.
