A village man struck by a car Monday evening is in critical condition suffering from a severe head injury, according to a release from the St. Johnsville Police Department.

Joseph H. Hudson, 74, of 10 W. Main St., Apt. 1, was airlifted to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown following the 5:50 p.m. accident.

Police in the release said Elizabeth M. Dudar, 43, of 1513 Bolster Hill Rd., St. Johnsville, backed into Hudson while pulling out of the parking lot at the Stewart’s Shop on North Division Street.

Police checked out Dudar’s 2005 Jeep and confirmed the brakes, mirrors and lights were all working and Dudar was ticketed for unsafe backing.

Police said Hudson used a cane to walk and wasn’t able to evade the vehicle and suffered injuries when he hit the ground.

SAVAC took Hudson to a landing zone and a LifeNet helicopter transported him to the Cooperstown hospital where he remained in the Intensive Care Unit.
