ROME — Authorities say a 16-year-old boy has been shocked but not seriously hurt by a lightning strike at the central New York bible camp where he’s working as a lifeguard.
Officials tell Utica’s WKTV-TV that the teen from Cobleskill was holding onto a metal bar while getting out of the shower when lightning from Tuesday night’s severe thunderstorms hit a building at the Delta Lake Bible Conference Center in Rome.
He was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
The station reports that the boy was at the camp for orientation week in preparation for his summer job as a lifeguard. His name hasn’t been released.
The camp’s executive director says the teen plans to work at the camp when it opens Friday.
