An investigation remained open Wednesday into what caused a crash that claimed the life of an Esperance man Monday.

Meanwhile, friends and family of Jeremy G. LaJeunesse, 20, a 2009 graduate of Schoharie Central School, are preparing for funeral services scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

State police Sgt. Dennis Schager said an accident report which is not yet complete states LaJeunesse was driving north on McGuire School Road in a 1999 Dodge pickup truck and hit the shoulder of the road, left the road and struck a tree.

The accident report indicated he was not wearing a seat belt, and the road condition was dry and clear under daylight.

Authorities got a call at 5:18 p.m., and LaJeunesse was taken to Ellis Hospital around 6:13 p.m., where he was pronounced dead, according to Schager.

The Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church on Main Street in Esperance will hold a wake from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and a funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, according to an obituary prepared by the White-Van Buren Funeral Home of Delanson.

Memorial donations can be sent to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Glenville.
