BENTON — Authorities say five people have been killed and eight injured in a crash involving a farm tractor and two other vehicles in New York’s rural Finger Lakes region.
Yates County Sheriff Ronald Spike tells local media that about 15 people were involved in the crash 43 miles southeast of Rochester. He says five people were pronounced dead at the scene and eight more were taken to hospitals.
At least four people were entangled in the wreckage before they were removed by emergency responders.
A dispatcher says four helicopters, several fire departments and about a dozen ambulances services were called to the scene.
Karin Christensen at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester says four of the injured are at the hospital and another is expected.
