Black bear spotted near Mohawk Golf Club in Niskayuna

A black bear has been spotted near the Mohawk Golf Club on Upper Union Street, according to the Niskayuna Police Department.

After the department began getting calls from residents about spotting a mid-sized bear in several wooded areas around town, police said a deputy saw the bear Sunday night near the golf course.

Currently the state Department of Environmental Conservation has told police that under state law nothing can be done about the bear until it becomes aggressive.

Residents are encouraged to keep their distance from the bear if they see it and report any aggressive behavior.
