The New York Racing Association says attendance and on-track wagering at Saratoga Race Course are both up as the track heads into the final two weeks of the 2011 season.

Through 28 days of Saratoga’s 40-day racing season, attendance was 632,600, up almost 4 percent from the nearly 610,000 who attended the races through the first five weeks of last season.

NYRA says on-track handled totaled more than $85.5 million, up nearly 10 percent from 2010. When downstate simulcast wagering at Belmont and Aqueduct is added, the resulting combined on-track handle increased by 15.5 percent.

All-sources handle, including on-track and wagering from simulcast outlets nationwide, is down 0.2 percent.

The highlight of the Saratoga season, the Travers Stakes, will be run for the 142nd time on Saturday.

The racing season runs through Labor Day.
