Shooting on Victory Avenue in Schenectady wounds one

Schenectady police Tuesday night investigated a shooting on Victory Avenue that left one man wounded.

The man, who witnesses said appeared to be in his early 20s, was apparently shot following an argument about 8:15 p.m.

The man sustained what appeared to be a leg injury, but Schenectady police Sgt. Matthew Dearing said the wound did not appear to be life-threatening. Dearing said the victim was taken to Albany Medical Center as a precaution.

According to police radio transmissions, a lone shooter fired at the man, then ran down Victory toward Close Street. The victim apparently walked to the nearby Mohawk Ambulance station on State Street for help.

A witness said she drove by and saw the victim on the ground, while another woman said she heard two men arguing in the street, followed by six gunshots.

Police had labeled at least three spots with markers as part of their investigation, which continued late into the evening. No further information, including the victim’s identity, was available.
