A Ravena man was killed Monday night after being struck by a car while trying to cross Central Avenue.

The accident happened at about 11:10 p.m. near the intersection with Lincoln Avenue. The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of relatives, was trying to cross the street to return to his hotel after apparently purchasing items at a gas station in the area.

While in the roadway of the eastbound lanes, he was struck by a 2009 Honda driven by 32-year-old Stacey Kennerly of Colonie, according to a press release from Colonie police.

The man was thrown into the windshield by the impact and suffered severe head and neck injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. It was raining heavily, the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and was not using a crosswalk.

The Village of Colonie Fire Department responded to the scene. Traffic on Central Avenue was reduced to one lane westbound and diverted completely eastbound for about two hours.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Colonie Police Traffic Unit at 783-2744.
