Heavy rains have flooded major roadways connecting Fultonville, Sprakers and Fonda, making them impassable until further notice, according to Montgomery County emergency management officials.

The list of closures are:

• Route 30A and between Fonda and Johnstown.

• Main Street in Fonda from Bridge Street to Route 334.

Route 5S between Route 30A in the village of Fultonville and Route 162 in Sprakers was also closed for a couple hours, but was reopened about 6:15 p.m. Meanwhile, Route 30A between Route 5S in FUltonville and Route 162 in Sloansville was closed until about 10:30 p.m.

Dwight Schwabrow, the county’s emergency management director, said the Cayadutta Creek near Route 334 and a small stream in Fonda overflowed, causing flooding.

“The water is not rising. It is just running over roads,” he said. “We also have reports of numerous flooded basements.”

The county is not anticipating serious flooding along the scale of that from recent tropical storms and is not planning any evacuations, Schwabrow said.

Meanwhile, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department is reporting on its Facebook page that County Highway 110 in the town of Broadalbin is closed at Lakeview Road because of severe flooding. A long-term road closure is anticipated because water is reported to be streaming under the roadway at that location.

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a flood advisory for portions of Fulton, Montgomery and Schoharie counties until 8:45 p.m. today.

Fonda, Tribes Hill and Fort Hunter earlier had been under a tornado watch, but officials said no tornadoes were reported.

The Montgomery County Emergency Management Office is posting updates on its Facebook page.
