The New York commission that regulates professional boxing is asking the attorney general to investigate whether an upstate fight card included illegal mixed martial arts and non-amateur boxing that should have been regulated.
The New York State Athletic Commission, following a complaint that one competitor was kicked and lay unconscious 15 minutes, is asking the attorney general’s Criminal Prosecutions Bureau to take a look at the videotaped Aug. 20 fights in Lake George.
The commission is questioning whether a boxing match should have been regulated, if some fighters were professionals, whether medical supervision was inadequate and whether fights crossed the line into “underground” mixed martial arts.
The promoter says the fighters were all amateurs in single-discipline martial arts or boxing and an emergency medical technician was on hand.
