An upstate New York woman who says she ran over and killed a 74-year-old man at his request has been sentenced to state prison on a separate grand larceny charge.
Local media report that 28-year-old Jennifer Riesel was sentenced Monday in Herkimer County Court to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison. She pleaded guilty in July to unlawfully using her ex-boyfriend’s credit card to purchase cell phone minutes.
Riesel was arrested last week on a second-degree murder charge after state police said she tied Francis Nelson’s hands and feet with rope and then ran him over with a borrowed car. Riesel told investigators that Nelson was terminally ill and had offered to pay her $180,000 to end his life.
Riesel’s attorney says Nelson had asked several people to kill him in return for money.
