OSWEGO — The head of the New York state canal system is resuming his inspection tour of the waterway, parts of which remain closed because of flood damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene.

The state Canal Corporation says Director Brian Stratton will travel the Oswego and Erie canals aboard a tugboat over the next two days as he meets with canal workers, local officials and people living along the waterways.

The director’s annual inspection tour began last week with a trip along the western section of the Erie Canal and the Cayuga-Seneca Canal.

This week’s tour begins this morning in Oswego. Stratton will travel south on the Oswego Canal to the Erie Canal, then head east to the Mohawk Valley, where the canal remains closed between Lock 8 outside Schenectady to Lock 17 at Little Falls.
