A 43-year-old doctor was accused Tuesday of improperly touching a female patient in his Waterford office.
Dr. Zahid Nazir of Latham, who is board certified in internal medicine and has an office at 46 Third St., is accused of three counts of forcible touching and three counts of third-degree sexual abuse. The arrest on the misdemeanor charges came after a two-week investigation into a complaint by the patient, said Waterford Public Safety Commissioner John Tanchak.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Department and the Capital District Drug Enforcement Task Force assisted Waterford police in the investigation.
“We all worked together on it,” Tanchak said, because the complaint was made to a Warren County sheriff’s deputy who is also a member of the Capital District Drug Enforcement Task Force.
“The victim lives in Warren County,” Tanchak said.
Nazir was arraigned in Waterford Town Court and released on bail. He could not be reached Tuesday to comment on the allegations.
Nazir has a medical degree from King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan.
He did his residency at Albany Memorial Hospital in Albany in 2005, according to a medical website.
Tanchak said there is currently only one victim in the sexual abuse case, but any other patients who believe they were subjected to inappropriate touching by Nazir can contact the department at 237-3341.
