Police find nothing in dig for missing Glenville woman

Glenville detectives found nothing in their search this week around the property where a woman was last seen 32 years ago.

Police were searching near 30 Olde Coach Road, the former home of Agnes Shoe, who was 37 when she disappeared without a trace in June 1979. Lt. Stephen Janik said there were no specific tips leading them to revisit the case, which has never been officially closed. Investigators revisit it periodically during their free time, Janik said, which is limited because the department is currently short one detective and both remaining detectives have a fairly heavy caseload.

The detectives decided to recheck areas visited previously. When taking a walk into the woods one day last week, Janik said they noticed an area of sunken ground, leading them to believe that something was there.

“Things that get buried into the ground sometimes show an indentation,” he said. “They decided to dig into an area to make sure.”

With the assistance of equipment from the town’s highway department, police conducted digging for parts of two days this week, finding nothing.

But the case remains open. The department works with other agencies on generating new leads, according to Janik.

“Any time across the country any agency comes across bones or teeth or anything that is of interest, we are notified through the computer that remains have been located,” he said.

He asked anyone with information to call Glenville police at 384-0135. “It’s sad that we’ve got a person that’s missing for this long and there’s no leads,” he said.
