A 41-year-old man shot in the back in a robbery attempt Thursday evening is expected to survive, police said this morning.
The man was shot as he fled the robbery attempt just before 7 p.m. near the intersection of Crane and Eighth streets, police said.
The man had been accosted by four or five men wearing dark clothing. The men tried to rob the victim, then a fight ensued.
During the fight, the victim spotted a small, silver handgun and then tried to run. He was then shot in the back once.
The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment. His injury was described as non-life threatening.
Police also suggested they have been able to speak with the victim, but were getting limited cooperation.
The investigation is ongoing.
