Sophomore forward Daniel Carr broke out of a six-game scoring slump, and freshman goalie and Niskayuna native Colin Stevens got his first win as 11th-ranked held off American International, 5-2, in a non-conference college hockey game at Messa Rink.

The Dutchmen (3-1-3) had a 3-2 lead late in third period before goals by freshmen forwards Daniel Ciampini and Max Novak put the game away.

Union outshot AIC (1-6), 58-28. Only the play of goalie Ben Meisner kept AIC in the game.

Carr, who scored 20 goals last season, got his first of this year, a power-play tally midway through the second period to give the Dutchmen a 3-1 lead.

Stevens replaced starter Troy Grosenick less than seven minutes into the game. Grosenick left with a stomach virus.

Stevens, who grew up a Dutchmen fan, made 25 saves.

Kyle Bodie and Wayne Simpson had the other Union goals. Steve Mele scored both AIC goals.
