A fire this morning caused extensive damage to a vacant home on Hamilton Hill, fire officials said.
The fire was called in at 873 Strong St. by neighbors at about 2 a.m., officials said.
Firefighters arrived to heavy fire on the second floor of the building. Firefighters entered the building, but once the fire got too intense and they were comfortable that no one was inside, they exited and fought the fire from the outside, deputy fire chief Michael Gillespie said.
Firefighters got the blaze under control in about 45 minutes, Gillespie said. The second floor was heavily damaged, and the roof was gone.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
