Mayoral candidates in Saratoga Springs headed to the polls this morning to help their own cause.

Republican incumbent Scott Johnson voted shortly after 9:30 a.m. and Democratic challenger Brent Wilkes voted at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. Both men were accompanied by their wives.

The candidates were in high spirits following a contentious campaign stretch that has revolved around the handling of the city.

Also at stake in Saratoga Springs are two commissioner posts, with the finance and public safety positions up for grabs. Republican incumbent Ken Ivins is running against Democrat Michele Madigan for finance and Republican incumbent Richard Wirth is running against Democrat Chris Mathiesen for public safety. Accounts and public works positions are both unopposed.
