In anticipation of a significantly larger field of runners than ever before, Gazette Stockade-athon organizers, in conjunction with FleetFeet Sports Albany, have bolstered the post-race facilities and services.

FleetFeet will have Recovery Zone stations set up near the finish in Central Park.

Fatigued runners can benefit from ice baths (from the knees down), Foam Rollers, the Stick, Trigger Point active release, KT Tape and NUUN sugar-free electrolyte replacement drink.

These products and services will be available at a Brooks-sponsored tent that includes heated restrooms.

Runners can expect four to five minutes of recovery assistance.

A wide variety of hot and cold refreshments will be available for runners in the park pavilion.

New this year is a wind resistant pavilion shell that was purchased by the City of Schenectady with a special grant donated by the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC).

The interior of the pavilion will be redesigned to allow runners to gather near the fireplace for warmth before and after the race.

Refreshment lines will be set-up to delay waiting times for the anticipated record turnout of 1,700.

The award ceremony will also be held in the pavilion starting at noon.

Runners who finish the course in under one hour will receive a special car magnet decal that reads “STK SUB 60” after they cross the finish mat.

Besides the Brooks performance shirt available to the first 1,400 pre-registered runners, other athletic performance wear with the trademark Stockade logo is available at FleetFeet Sports.

These items, which include half-zip tops, jackets and hats, will be available at the Gazette Stockade-athon Health Expo, and on race day in Central Park while supplies last.

The Health Expo will be located at the GE

Theater at Proctors, and will be held Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission and parking are free for the Expo, which offers “last chance” race registration. There is no day-of-race registration.

Kids can register also for the one-mile Duck Pond Run.

Runners who do not register in time to receive a shirt will receive a 2012 Stockade-athon calendar if they attend the expo.

Non-perishable food donations are encouraged for needy families at the “Concerned for the Hungry” booth. Clothing in good condition will be accepted for the Schenectady City Mission.
