Gunshots fired into a crowd outside Joe’s Bar on Fifth Avenue early Saturday morning left one man dead and two others injured.

It was the city’s third homicide this year.

Witnesses told police that an individual fi red several shots into a crowd that was standing outside the bar at 1306 Fifth Ave. about 5:15 a.m.

Rashad Robinson, 23, of Schenectady, died from a gunshot wound to the torso, said Lt. Mark McCracken, while two others sustained nonlife-threatening wounds.

George Lloyd, 23, of Schenectady, was treated in Ellis Hospital’s emergency room for a wound to the leg. Shawn Coons, 28, of Rotterdam, was shot in the forearm and is being treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital after the bullet nicked an artery, McCracken said.

“There was some sort of a party or event being held at the bar,” McCracken said. “I didn’t hear of any other witnesses who were affiliated with the event who knew what was going on.”

McCracken said he could not estimate how many people were standing outside the bar at the time of the shooting. Joseph Cimmino, the owner of Joe’s Bar, said there was no party at the time of the shooting and that it was a normal night. He hung up when asked about the crowd outside the bar.

No one answered at the bar’s number Saturday evening, but a message said the bar is open Monday through Sunday until 4 a.m. State regulations require bars to close by 4 a.m. McCracken said the bar was still open at the time of the incident or appeared to have just closed.

Police had no suspect or motive Saturday, but Mc-Cracken said police saw at least two vehicles leave the scene immediately after the shooting.

Detectives and evidence technicians continue to investigate. Police are asking that anyone with information come forward.

Officers from the Rotterdam and Glenville police departments assisted at the crime scene.
