The New York State Canal System will close for the season on Tuesday.
Operators say navigation on the statewide system is scheduled to end at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
A portion of the Erie Canal in eastern New York from Little Falls to Rotterdam Junction has been closed since Tropical Storm Irene struck at the end of August and caused damage to locks.
However, the Erie and Oswego canals are projected to re-open on Nov. 24 and close on Dec. 8 to allow commercial and recreational boaters to reach their destinations for the season.
