A study of the economic impact the nation’s oldest and most successful thoroughbred racetrack has on a nine-county upstate New York region is set to be released.

The Saratoga County Industrial Development Agency plans to announce the results of the study late this morning at the National Museum of Racing, located across the street from Saratoga Race Course.

IDA officials say the study looked at the impact the racetrack has on various sectors of the regional economy, including employment, thoroughbred breeding, and the tourism and hospitality industries. The study focused on the track’s economic benefits generated in Saratoga and eight other eastern New York counties.

A similar study conducted five years ago pegged the annual economic impact of the Saratoga racetrack at nearly $214 million. Saratoga operates a 40-day summer season.
