Two Albany police officers injured arresting suspect in knife-point robbery

Suspects accused of separate knife-point robberies were arrested on Tuesday and today.

Two city police officers were injured Wednesday morning when they tried to arrest the suspect in a knife robbery.

Dorrell Williams, 19, of 558 Washington Ave., allegedly robbed a 23-year-old man at knife point around 5 a.m. today in front of 260 Quail St. He is accused of grabbing the victim’s arm and pressing a knife against his stomach, while demanding all of his possessions.

Williams removed a wallet, money, student ID, cigarettes and a driver’s license from the victim’s sweatshirt, before the victim pushed off and ran away. Williams pursued the victim into the Pine Hills Market on Ontario Street, but abandoned his chase when he realized there were people inside. He fled south on Ontario Street.

Two officers found Williams at Hamilton and Quail streets, where he punched and kicked officers during his arrest. After a short struggle, the officers were able to handcuff him and take him into custody.

The two arresting officers sustained minor injuries to their shins, legs and arms.

Williams was charged with robbery in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court this morning and remanded to Albany County Jail without bail.

On Tuesday, police arrested a man for attempted robbery at Second Street and Judson Street.

Gregory Brown is accused of approaching a 22-year-old man around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, when he displayed a knife and demanded money. The victim refused to give him any money and he received undisclosed injuries in the process.

Brown then fled the intersection, but was located a few minutes later by police officers. They searched him and found a knife and two bags of marijuana.

He was charged with attempted robbery in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon fourth degree and unlawful possession of marijuana.
