A Howes Cave woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash this morning on Interstate 88 in Duanesburg, state police said.
The victim was identified as 57-year-old Roslyn L. Labarre. Labarre who died after her car rear-ended a semi-truck, and then was hit by another vehicle, state police said. Labarre died at the scene.
The accident happened just before 7:30 this morning at mile marker 105 eastbound, between exits 24 and 23, when a tractor-trailer, driven by Festuskmotho Noumgu, 31, of Nebraska, was hit in the rear by Labarre’s Honda CRV.
Labarre’s Honda then became dislodged from the semi, moving into the passing lane. It was then struck by a Saturn sedan, driven by Bobbi Jo Nelson, 40, of Schoharie.
Nelson’s car then became airborne, landing down an embankment on its roof, police said. Responders used the Jaws of Life to extricate Nelson from the car.
Nelson was taken to Albany Medical Center by Rotterdam EMS with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
Noumgu was not injured. He had been traveling from Porttville, Pa., to the Golub Corporation in Schenectady at the time of the crash.
The state police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the state Department of Transportation Motor Carrier Safety Inspection Group are assisting in the investigation.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation, police said, but driver inattention may have been a contributing factor. No charges are pending against the truck driver.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the state police at (518) 630-1700.
Also responding to the scene were the Delanson, Quaker Street and Duanesburg fire departments.
