A total of 32 people have applied for the position of superintendent of the Gloversville Enlarged School District, the person heading the search reported.
The deadline to apply for the job was Monday, said Patrick Michel, district superintendent for Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES.
Of those who applied, he said approximately 14 are “paper-eligible,” meaning they have the background, the certification and the experience to make them “at least worth looking at.”
Michel said he will recommend six of the applicants to the Gloversville Board of Education for review. The board is scheduled to meet Monday night and will review the candidates in executive session, he said.
“I will give them six whom I recommend, but I will bring all that are paper-eligible to the board,” he said.
Michel would not reveal the names of any applicants but said they all come from within New York state.
The board is expected to select two to four top candidates for interviews in December, he said. The top candidates will also meet with students, teachers and community groups during the review process.
The board hopes to make an offer in January and have a new superintendent in place by March 1, Michel said. The board is advertising the position’s salary as between $120,000 and $140,000. By law, the board can offer the fi nalist a contract for a minimum of three years and a maximum of fi ve years, he said.
Gloversville launched its search after Superintendent Robert DeLilli announced he would leave the district for the superintendent’s post in the neighboring Greater Johnstown School District.
Retired Galway School Superintendent Cliff Moses is serving as interim superintendent in Gloversville.
