Bullock staying at SCCC

Schenectady County Community College President Quintin Bullock is staying put.

Bullock had been one of three finalists for the presidency of Stark State College in Ohio. However, SCCC Board of Trustees Chairwoman Denise Murphy McGraw said he informed her that he withdrew from consideration to lead the school of nearly 20,000 students.

McGraw said she was thrilled that Bullock, who has been SCCC president since 2009, will be staying because he has been a “transformational” figure.

“I have a lot of things I want to continue to do and I want somebody to help us keep moving forward,” she said.

Bullock has introduced new programs such as storage battery technology and alternative energy, launched classes at Center City and begun projects to build student housing and a new music wing addition.

“Obviously, he’s an attractive candidate,” McGraw said. “I’m lucky to have him. Anybody else would be lucky to have him as well.”

Stark State selected Para Jones, who has been president of Spartanburg Community College in Spartanburg, S.C., since 2009. Before her current position, she was at Stark State for 22 years, spending the last four as vice president for advancement, planning, college and community relations.

She starts in February and will make $225,000.
