Shenendehowa’s unbeaten returning state wrestling place finishers Nick Kelley and Tony Fusco have top seeds at 132 and 195 pounds, respectively, but the Plainsmen will have to battle newcomer Wyoming Seminary Prep of Pennsylvania and Long Island’s Long Beach, Longwood and Wantagh for the team title at the Eastern States Classic, which opens this afternoon at Sullivan County CC in Loch Sheldrake.
One week remove from a five-match sweep at the Union-Endicott Duals, Rob Weeks’ team returns to this tough two-day event where it finished second to Longwood a year ago. Fusco was second last year and Kelley sixth, one year after winning at 132.
Shenendehowa has six projected top-eight finishers — Kelley, Fusco, David Almaviva, fourth-seeded Cole Lampman, Corey Ali, Kevin Parker and Jesse Porter. Longwood has five projected top eights, and Long Beach has four.

Vizcarrondo (220), Evan Botwin (120) and Michael Johnson (285).
State champ Connor Sutton of LaSalle, third last year and seventh as a soph, is the top seed at 160.
Two-time place finisher Zach Diekel of Whitehall is seeded second to Fusco. Noah Valasto (126) of Hudson Falls and LaSalle’s Brendan Goldup are also two-time place finishers.
Amsterdam got a pair of top-eight seeds in state bronze-medalist Brandon Lapi (fourth at 113) and unbeaten 285 Chris Rodriguez; Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake sophomore Joey Butler got the seventh seed at 132; Queensbury state finalist Matt Lashway is seeded second at 182; and Dudley (fourth, 160) joins teammate Valastro as a projected top eight for Hudson Falls.
Mike Green picked up a forfeit at 182, running his record to 24-0, as Cobleskill-Richmondville beat Voorheesville, 51-12, Thursday in the Colonial Council.
Cory Seipp pinned at 138 for his 100th varsity win as Ichabod Crane edged Mechanicville, 39-30, in another Colonial match.
Sheldon Allen, Najee Collins-Coleman and Blamo Keta recorded consecutive falls to lead Green Tech past Canajoharie/Fort Plain, 42-35, in a non-league match.
