An employee at Hunter Mountain ski resort in the Catskills has died after slipping on ice while working on snow-making equipment and falling down a 200-foot embankment.

State police say 41-year-old Brian Mattice of Gilboa was working with equipment along the “Milky Way” ski trail at Hunter when he fell, striking a rock and a tree.

Police say Mattice was wearing a helmet and had ice-gripping crampons on his boots. The ski patrol tried to assist Mattice, but he died of his injuries.

Greene County Coroner John Guilino took the body to Albany Medical Center for autopsy.
