Just a few hours after a fatal fire this morning on Foster Avenue, a large blaze broke out at a Lenox Road home this evening, sending flames shooting into the air and low-hanging smoke around the neighborhood.
Firefighters were called to 2024 Lenox Road shortly before 7:30 p.m., officials said.
Talya Humphrey, who lives across the street, said her daughter came down the stairs and spotted flames coming from the top of the house.
“We started screaming, and my son called 911,” Humphrey said. “They got here pretty fast.”
When they went outside, the family met the resident, who had already escaped the home. Humphrey said the female resident told her no one else was inside.
Smoke rolled from the home as flames shot from the second story. A ladder truck was periodically obscured by the smoke. Onlookers had to turn away as a new cloud descended upon them.
An as yet unidentified elderly woman died early this morning in a blaze in an apartment building at 1922 Foster Ave., about five blocks west of tonight’s fire. A second resident was able to escape safely.
