The president of Scotia-based 1st National Bank has been nominated to serve in a national leadership role for community banks.
John H. Buhrmaster, president of 1st National, has been nominated to become vice chairman of the Independent Community Bankers of America, which represents nearly 5,000 community banks throughout the United States.
The Scotia native is one of several top banking officials across the nation to be nominated for positions on the organization’s 2012-2013 executive committee.
In 2005 Buhrmaster was promoted to president of the Scotia bank, where he has worked since 1986 in positions ranging from teller to senior vice president.
Before joining the bank at 201 Mohawk Ave. he attended Syracuse University and earned a degree in management information systems and marketing.
Buhrmaster has been involved with both regional and national banking associations, including the ICBA’s Payments and Technology Committee and Federal Reserve Services Work Group. Locally, he is involved with the Scotia Rotary Club, the Schenectady Employment Training Development Corporation and the Capital Region Economic Development Corporation.
ICBA’s board of directors will vote on the nominations March 11 during its annual National Convention and Techworld, to be held in Nashville, Tenn., from March 11-14.
