No one was injured this afternoon when a car caught fire inside a garage at 1227 Gerling St.

An electrical fire broke out at about 2:30 p.m. inside the car, which was an early to mid-1990s car, possibly a Chevy Caprice, according to Deputy Fire Chief John Nicol.

Firefighters had to cut the hood off the car to get to the engine component, Nicol said. The car was believed to be a total loss.

There was some damage to the garage, including some siding. Also, firefighters had to cut off the door to access the car.
