City police are looking for help identifying items found in a suspect’s backpack this morning, items that may have been stolen.

Many of the items are distinctive, including jewelry, cellphones, photos and even a football card, police said.

The items were found in the backpack of a man arrested on unrelated charges this morning in the downtown area of Schenectady, police spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken said.

Police were not releasing the suspect’s name and he was still being booked this afternoon on the unrelated charges.

But, when asked where the items came from, the man couldn’t account for them, McCracken said.

The items include rings, earrings, bracelets, broaches, cameos, necklaces and cufflinks. They also include U.S. and foreign currency, several cellphones, personal photos, a football card in a protective case and a designer watch.

Police are not describing the items further to prevent false claims.

But they believe the items may have been taken in crimes committed in Schenectady or surrounding areas, either from homes or from vehicles.

Anyone with information or who believes the items may be theirs can contact the city police department detective division at 382-5245.
