Assembly Majority Leader Ron Canestrari, D-Cohoes, announced today that he will not run for re-election this fall.
At a news conference this morning, Canestrari said he will be retiring for personal reasons, and mentioned that he wants to have more free time. He did not endorse a candidate to replace him.
Canestrari, former mayor of Cohoes, is following the steps of two other Democratic Albany assemblymen who have decided to retire in the last month.
The first to go was Assemblyman Bob Reilly, D-Colonie, and next was Assemblyman Jack McEneny, D-Albany.
