A 3-year-old girl was injured this evening when she was hit by a motorcycle in the city’s Mont Pleasant neighborhood.

Details of the accident remain under investigation, but Lt. Mark McCracken said the unidentified girl was in the road just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of Oakwood Avenue and Van Cortland Street when she was struck by a motorcycle.

“How she ended up there, we’re still looking into,” he said.

McCracken said the girl lives in the neighborhood near Mont Pleasant Middle School, but he was unsure how far from her house she was at the time. He said police are still trying to determine whether she was with a group of other children or under parental supervision.

She was treated at the scene by Schenectady firefighters, then taken to Ellis Hospital with unspecified injuries.

The rider of the motorcycle was also treated at the scene for a leg injury and was being interviewed by police. McCracken said he was unsure if the rider would be charged.

“It’s too early to tell,” McCracken said. “He’s currently being interviewd by members of the department.”
