Federal prosecutors say a man and a woman, both of whom are described as heroin addicts, have been indicted on charges they robbed three banks in Rutland County, Vt., and two in nearby Granville, N.Y., last year.

Prosecutors say John Maynard and Jill Ludwig, both 30 and from New Jersey, have been indicted on charges they robbed the five banks between Sept. 7 and Nov. 5.

The Vermont banks were in Rutland, West Rutland and Poultney.

Maynard and Ludwig were arrested by Vermont State Police in early November. They were held in state custody until their recent transfer to federal custody.
