A 67-year-old woman was assaulted early this morning while waiting in her car for her husband, police said.
Antonio Lopez-Bautista, 18, was charged with three felonies, included attempted kidnapping, in connection with the incident, and police said he is in this country illegally.
City police alleged Lopez-Bautista came up behind the vehicle parked near Congress and South Franklin streets and pulled the woman out, assaulting her and dragging her along the sidewalk, trying to pull her into an unlit area. The man punched and kicked the woman repeatedly as she tried to yell for help, police said.
Lopez-Bautista initially fled the scene, but police found him later hiding under bushes in the dark near where the incident happened.
The woman was taken to Saratoga Hospital for treatment of a bloody nose, cuts and bruises to her arms, face, neck and elbows, and has since been released.
Lopez-Bautista was charged with second-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree attempted rape and second-degree assault, all felonies, and misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation.
He was arraigned before City Judge Jeffrey Wait and sent to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
