Permit obtained for Saratoga Springs Memorial Day parade

The people planning a last-minute Memorial Day parade in Saratoga Springs on Monday, May 28, obtained their parade permit today after showing proof of $1 million insurance coverage.

Marilyn Rivers, the city’s director of safety and risk management, said Paul Brisson provided the proof of insurance and the parade can move forward.

The veterans organizations who had held the city’s Memorial Day parade for more than two decades decided not to hold the event this year for a variety of reasons, including finances and aging veterans who could no longer march in the parade.

Brisson, 33, a Milton resident, and a growing number of volunteers heard about the cancellation and went to work late last week to plan a small parade that will start at 10 a.m. Monday at Broadway and Ellsworth Jones Place (former Grove Street).

City officials say the parade organizers have met all the city requirements. The parade will go south on Broadway to Congress Park, where a brief ceremony will be held after the parade at the War Memorial in the park.
