Authorities say a 13-year-old boy has been fatally shot while he and another teen handled a shotgun in a bedroom at the victim’s Fort Edward home.
Sgt. Justin Derway of the Fort Edward Police Department tells The Associated Press this morning that the case is being investigated as an accidental shooting.
Derway says the victim and a male friend, also 13, had been handling the shotgun in an upstairs bedroom when the gun discharged around 9:15 p.m. Police say they haven’t determined yet which of the boys was holding the gun when it went off.
Derway says the victim’s parents and several other children were home at the time.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released. Derway says police haven’t determined yet if any charges are warranted.
An autopsy is scheduled for this morning.
