The gunman and the victim had words just before Monday evening’s shooting on Paige Street, police said today.
Schenectady city police today identified the victim as 20-year-old Zaquan Wally, a city resident, who remained in stable condition at Albany Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his back.
Sgt. Matthew Dearing said he understood detectives are still working to talk to him.
Wally was shot just before 7:30 p.m. near 334 Paige St.
Police had little description of the suspect and asked that anyone with information contact authorities.
The shooting happened near the corner of Westover Place, just steps away from Jerry Burrell Park.
Police said four or five shots were fired. No weapon was found on the victim.
Wally was airlifted to Albany Medical Center from a landing zone at Mont Pleasant Middle School.
