Construction worker hurt on Saratoga parking deck job site

A 48-year-old construction worker received non-life threatening injuries when he was hit by a prefab

A 48-year-old construction worker sustained non-life threatening injuries when he was hit by a prefabricated concrete panel Thursday morning at the city’s Woodlawn Avenue parking deck construction site.

Capt. Thomas Knight of the city Fire Department said the call came in at 10:30 a.m. indicating the man was hit by a “big side panel.”

Knight said the man was apparently taking the bracing off a side panel used in erecting the parking deck when “it kicked out” and hit him in the back and head.

The man, whose name was not released, was conscious after the accident. He complained of lower back pain and spasms, Knight said. He was taken by fire department ambulance to Saratoga Hospital for treatment and observation.

Knight said the man was an employee of BCI Construction, the project’s general contractor. The four-story deck is being built on Woodlawn Avenue between Church and Division streets.

This was the first injury at the construction site, according to city officials.
