Town officials are appealing for the public’s help in finding a white pit bull that bit a 12-year-old boy near Chango Elementary School last week.
The mother of the boy, who did not fully identify herself to protect her son’s privacy, said the boy was bitten by the dog on June 18, and if it can’t be located within the next day or two, he will need to begin a series of shots for possible rabies exposure.
The boy was bicycling with two friends at about 6 p.m. when he encountered the dog, which was being walked by an adult woman. The mother said the boy was bitten twice, and the woman left the scene with the dog.
Town Clerk Flo Sickles said dog licenses on file don’t show any white pit bulls registered in the neighborhood, but it’s possible the dog was unregistered.
The mother has posted flyers seeking information around the southern part of Malta, and on Tuesday Town Supervisor Paul Sausville distributed an email asking anyone who may know the dog or its owner to contact either town animal control officer Don Stack or the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department.
