Traffic in downtown Albany will be excruciatingly slow this afternoon, so police are advising commuters to find alternate routes.

Police are recommending that commuters avoid southbound Broadway and southbound Water Street to Quay Street to reach I-787 north.

Drivers should instead take Broadway north on Rt. 32 into Menands to reach I-787.

The downtown I-787 interchange will be bogged down with traffic trying to reach the Alive @ 5 show at the Corning Preserve, and I-787 will be slower than normal due to roadwork.

Drivers trying to get to the Times Union Center or North Pearl Street for concerts tonight should also plan extra time, police said.

For Pearl Street Live, police will close North Pearl Street between Columbia Street and Pine Street from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

For the Roger Waters show at the Times Union Center, police will close South Pearl Street between Hudson Avenue and Beaver Street. That street will also be closed from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The closures will also make it more difficult for audience members to reach parking lots from exit 4B. There are no changes at exit 3B.

At 4B, police say drivers should turn left onto Broadway, turn right onto State Street and then turn left onto South Pearl Street to avoid the road closures. Electronic road signs will direct drivers along that route.
